Rangers fans have raved about Brandon Barker following an impressive cameo in the 2-0 pre-season victory over Lyon.

When the campaign was halted in mid-March, he had played just 442 minutes for the club across 12 appearances in all competitions.

Despite being signed for his pace and creative abilities he’d been unable to make an impact in the final third, scoring just once and failing to register an assist, and as a result, he had slipped down the pecking order.

It seems Steven Gerrard still has faith in the young Englishman, though, and he caught the eye off the bench on Thursday night.

Since arriving at Ibrox, Barker has looked reluctant to take on defenders, but there was no hesitation in Lyon as he showed blistering pace on multiple occasions to beat opposition full-backs.

Shortly after being introduced, he dropped the shoulder and sped into the box before pulling the ball back to fellow substitute Ross McCrorie, whose effort was cleared off the line.

Fifteen minutes from time, he once again left defenders trailing in his wake, this time picking out Jordan Jones who could only shoot wide.

Given his disappointing returns last season, plenty of supporters were stunned by the impact Barker made from the bench and are hoping it’s a sign of things to come.
