Rangers v St Mirren – player ratings

Jack Butland – 9

Customary good saves to keep the score at 1-0 as Rangers number one faced difficult conditions in the first-half.

We drop points without him today.

James Tavernier – 6

Struggled to impose himself on the game as the weather played it’s part in one that the quality was poor throughout.

Was wasteful with a couple of attempts at goal.

Ridvan Yilmaz – 6

Good early run inside saw a goal bound effort deflect safely into the keeper’s hands.

Was he given a farewell send off?

Connor Goldson – 6

A slow start for the vice-captain who was caught in possession and gave away a couple of dangerous free-kicks.

John Souttar – 7

Got his positioning right to intercept a few dangerous crosses from St Mirren.

John Lundstram – 8

Another inch perfect pass to provide the assist for Cyriel Dessers, he clearly has the ability to play these balls and Clement has given him the confidence to do it.

Nicolas Raskin – 6

Never short of energy and running but found it difficult to put his foot on the ball, in fairness, so did the other 19 outfield players.

Dujon Sterling – 6

Similar to Raskin, the work rate was there and he made some good runs in behind but just couldn’t get the ball to sit right for him.

Todd Cantwell – 5

Not a game for Cantwell with the ball pinging all over the place and space at a premium.

Scott Wright – 5

Couldn’t get onto the ball in any 1v1 situations which is the whole point of playing a winger.

Should be no more than an impact sub.

Cyril Dessers – 7

Great composure for his goal, justifying his place in the team.

He’s in fine goalscoring form giving Fabio Silva work to do.

Substitutes

Ross McCausland – 7

More effective than Wright but final ball or decision could’ve been better.

Tom Lawrence – 7

Should have scored a second for Rangers when he fired wide from 18 yards.

Had more influence than Cantwell.

Ryan Jack – 6

Similar effect to Sterling and Raskin, couldn’t get a hold of the ball.

Rabbi Matondo – 6

A hard game to make a difference in coming on late.
