Rangers took on Kilmarnock looking to maintain their position as league leaders with Philippe Clement knowing that it was never going to be an easy task.

The Gers boss has routinely rotated his squad but kept a large core of the side that dismantled Hearts so convincingly at Ibrox at the weekend, Borna Barisic being the controversial change.

With Rangers struggling to put in any type of performance, here are your player ratings for the trip to face Kilmarnock.

Rangers v Kilmarnock – player ratings

Philippe Clement always focusses on his own team in terms of intensity and energy but, did the players he picked deliver and did the substitutes make the desired impact?

Jack Butland – 8

Saved Mohamed Diomande’s blushes when he was woefully short with a back pass, dealt with Killie’s long balls and set-piece threat.

Wonder save at 1-0.

James Tavernier – 7

If he wants to lift the Scottish Premiership trophy again, that first-half performance has to be binned.

Tav does what Tav does.

Borna Barisic – 2

Totally betrayed the manager’s faith in selecting him.

Gave away a stupid free-kick which led to the penalty and was a hindrance when building attacks.

Connor Goldson – 5

Should have scored from one of two good chances and at the opposite end was nowhere near commanding enough.

Better in the second half.

John Souttar – 5

Similar to Goldson, rarely looked comfortable and didn’t see him carrying the ball out from the back to break Killie’s system.

Solid after the interval though.

John Lundstram – 6

Too many long balls, didn’t take anywhere near enough responsibility in building attacks through the phases.

Mohamed Diomande – 6

Almost felt sorry form him as long ball, after long ball was launched over his head.

Tom Lawrence – 8

As with Diomande, what is the point in playing good technical players but then not playing to their strengths.

Two moments of quality made a huge difference.

Ross McCausland – 3

His poorest night in a Rangers shirt.

Couldn’t get a hold of the ball and was nowhere near positive enough when he did.

Oscar Cortes – 6

Tried to make things happen and was a constant threat to Killie’s defence, the only problem was that we didn’t use him enough.

Didn’t really create anything or look like scoring despite all our possession.

Ineffective.

Fabio Silva – 5

Hooked at half-time but the service he got from his teammates was awful.

Unlucky that a deflection saw him narrowly miss out on opening the scoring from the only chance he did get.

Substitutes

Cyriel Dessers – 6

Made a nuisance of himself and caused the panic that led to Rangers second, inches away from scoring a third with a neat volley.

Ridvan Yilmaz – 6

So much better than Barisic but that isn’t really saying much!

Dujon Sterling – 6

Brought on to bring energy and a more physical presence, did his job.

Scott Wright – 6

On a night when football wasn’t the winner, worked tirelessly.

Nicolas Raskin – 6

Brought on to replace the tiring legs of Lawrence.
