Rangers player ratings from 1-1 draw with Motherwell

Rangers drew 1-1 with Motherwell on Sunday afternoon as their 15-match winning streak came to an end at Fir Park.

Devante Cole opened the scoring for the Steelmen in the 21st minute and they held onto their advantage until 18 minutes from time, when Cedric Itten powered home a header from a superb Borna Barisic cross.

It was two points dropped against a side who started the day bottom of the Premiership table, but the Gers’ lead at the top has been stretched to 21 points.

Here’s how we thought the players fared:

Allan McGregor – 6

Made a routine early save from a long-range Campbell effort but could do little about Cole’s close-range finish. Largely a spectator thereafter.

James Tavernier – 6

Didn’t manage to snuff out Motherwell’s threat from out wide in the build-up to the opening goal. Struggled to produce quality deliveries, particularly in the first half. Brilliant leap and knockdown in the 67th minute which should have been finished by a teammate.

Connor Goldson – 7

Dragged out of position in the build-up to Motherwell’s goal. A big attacking threat throughout, seeing a header cleared off the line and a well-struck shot beaten away by Kelly. Good distribution.

Leon Balogun – 6

Could have done better positionally and was therefore unable to cut out the cross that led to the opening goal. His pace was key to halting a dangerous Motherwell counter in the 78th minute.

Borna Barisic – 7

A constant threat in attack, sending cross after cross into the box. Superb quality on the delivery that picked out Itten for the equaliser.

Steven Davis – 8

Once again at the centre of everything for Rangers. His full range of passing was on show as he did more than any other to try to find a way through the hosts on his 300th appearance for the club.

Joe Aribo – 6

Started brightly and was silky on the ball at times. Struggled with his final pass, though, and blazed a great chance over just prior to the hour mark.

Glen Kamara – 6

Tidy in possession and provided good cover for the full-backs as usual. Not his most dynamic showing though.

Ianis Hagi – 6

Bright in patches with nice touches and link-up play as Rangers huffed and puffed in the first half. Booked before the interval. Fired a snapshot wide early in the second half. Subbed for Itten in the 55th minute.

Ryan Kent – 5

A frustrating afternoon for Kent, who struggled to get involved in the game in the first half. More lively in the second period but was sloppy with his close control and lacked quality in the final third. Subbed for Barker late on.

Alfredo Morelos – 6

Worked hard and showed good movement before going close with a glancing header in the 26th minute. Should have got on the end of Tavernier’s second-half knockdown but was caught on his heels. Less dynamic than his Pittodrie display but was without consistent quality service and was well marshalled by the Motherwell defence. Subbed for Defoe with eight minutes remaining.

SUBS:

Cedric Itten – 7

Continued his excellent streak against Motherwell by making the desired impact off the bench. Bright and precise with his touches and movements in general play and powered a header home to earn his side a point.

Jermain Defoe – n/a

Replaced Morelos late on as Rangers looked for a late winner. Brilliant touch in injury time but the well-struck shot that followed was straight at Kelly.

Brandon Barker – n/a

Replaced Kent for the final few minutes.
