Todd Cantwell has waxed lyrical about Rangers manager Michael Beale as the ex-Norwich City star praises the likes of Connor Goldson for the warm Ibrox welcome.

Rangers pulled off something of a coup in signing Cantwell, 24, this January with the midfielder falling out of favour at Norwich after coming through the club’s Academy.

Once touted as a £50m player during his time in the Premier League, the last few seasons have seen Todd Cantwell stagnate and now Michael Beale has offered him a Rangers reprieve.

It’s already clear the Ibrox club is leaving a big impression on the impressionable Todd Cantwell and speaking a few weeks on from signing for the club the midfielder paid tribute to Michael Beale for helping him integrate.

“I do owe a lot of that to the manager because I have come in and he has made it really easy for me,” said Todd Cantwell.

“There have been multiple opportunities to put an arm around me and I have felt it.

“As a player, that can honestly be so important, to feel like you are supported and feel like they understand you away from football as well. I think that is what has made it so smooth for me.

“I am a winner, I want to be a winner and coming to Rangers was definitely a good idea. I think I have had a pretty dramatic start to my career, really.

“I have had four promotions, a relegation and had some different bits and pieces. To be honest, it puts me in a good place where I know what it is I want to be and where I want to get to.

“At Norwich, when we were in the Championship, we had that responsibility and we were touted to win every game, really.

“Being here and being in all the cup competitions and stuff like that, it is a bigger weight, but it is something that I personally love. I want to win games.”

Connor Goldson and Michael Beale praised by Todd Cantwell

As well as Michael Beale, Todd Cantwell has been praising his Rangers teammates for their welcome, with Connor Goldson praised for his role in incorporating Cantwell into the team.

Goldson knows all too well what it means to play for Rangers and the ex-Carrow Road star even revealed he sits next to the club’s vice-captain in the Ibrox dressing room.

“They have been massive, to be fair,” said Cantwell.

“I sit next to Connor in the changing room and he put his arm around me quite early and let me know the way around here and what is good and what is not.

“I can only be thankful, to be honest, and it has been a smooth transition.

“For him to take the time, he obviously thinks a bit of me to do that because he doesn’t need to. My team-mates have been brilliant with me.”
