Three things Philippe Clement must change to keep his Rangers job after Kilmarnock failure

Philippe Clement has professed his love for Rangers, however, this doesn’t give him the devine right to not have his position scrutinised.

With no CEO or sporting director above him to review performances and results, the manager is almost immune to the sack.

Rangers had looked more solid in terms of restricting opposition teams to chances, but Clement urgently needs to make changes because the status quo will only see pressure inevitably increase sooner, rather than later.

Three changes Philippe Clement must make to keep Rangers job

Here are three things that Clement has to consider, if he wants to keep his job in the Ibrox hotseat.

A change of shape

With one away goal in the league all season, something isn’t right.

Injuries in the squad are a factor, but that doesn’t equate to sitting bottom of the SPFL table in terms of scoring goals when on the road.

On too many occasions, crosses are going into the box with either nobody or not enough players on hand to take advantage or to pressurise the opposition defence.

At the very least, being seen to accept that his current set up isn’t working might buy Clement some time.

Move the wingers

It’s becoming painfully obvious that having wingers cut inside where there are more bodies is restricting space and the ability to create chances.

Keep it simple.

Give them two instructions.

When they have the ball, drive to the by-line and cut the ball back.

When the ball is on the other side, get into the box and at the back post.

Play Nedim Bajrami centrally

The Albania international has shown that he can create from the left, but Rangers need someone to dictate play from the middle of midfield.

Tom Lawrence isn’t that guy and Mohamed Diomande needs a hand, someone who he can interchange with and play alongside.

Having players like Oscar Cortés and Danilo back fit would make a huge difference, as will Ianis Hagi when he returns from suspension, until then though, doing nothing simply isn’t an option.
