Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos netted a brace to send out an emphatic title message in the 5-0 drubbing of Hearts.
The Colombian striker’s frustrating recent absence – down to an international call-up that didn’t herald a squad place never mind minutes on the pitch – had left a huge chasm in the Gers attack.
Whilst Alfredo Morelos hasn’t always been a consistent presence at the tip of the Rangers attack, there will be few who can deny how effective the striker has been under van Bronckhorst.
Despite a stumbling start to the campaign under Steven Gerrard, Alfredo Morelos looks sharper, stronger and above all else back to his lethal self.
A nuisance just beyond the goals, Morelos’ impressive performance saw him have a hand in everything good and really should’ve seen him leave with the match ball and a hattrick.
But more than just be the foundation on which Rangers’ emphatic title response was sent – the club defiant after a disastrous week in the shadow of that Celtic Park defeat – Alfredo Morelos once again proved just how vital he will be to any title charge.
Alfredo Morelos increasingly central to Rangers’ title defence
That’s now eight goals in ten games and the striker is in a purple patch that can not only haul Rangers out of their recent mire but also fire the team to 56.
We’ll never know if Alfredo Morelos’ presence at Celtic Park would’ve made a difference on the night but it certainly did against Hearts.
Involved in everything good about the performance today, Morelos was a nimble focal point who got the better of Toby Sibbick throughout and was good value for his brace.
Linking up with the side and bringing players into play too, it was a complete performance at times only hindered by a lack of composure in front of goal that could’ve seen him have a hattrick.
Also rolling in Glen Kamara – who finished with anticipation and aplomb – Alfredo Morelos is anything but a selfish striker and a team player who at present has a sharpened edge.

El Bufalo is back and not before long with Rangers emboldened by the Colombian’s presence with Alfredo Morelos breathing new life into the club’s title defence.
With Champions League qualification and a reported £30m cash boost on the line, the striker could yet prove priceless for Rangers this season.
Talking of Ibrox cash boosts, one Premier League London club are reportedly mulling over a £10m for a leading Gers star.
