Rangers have made more than a few questionable calls in the transfer windows in recent seasons.

Ross Wilson oversaw some poor recruitment during his time at Ibrox, but the team now appears to be in a better position.

The American owners have decided against appointing a sporting director, which so far seems to be the right decision.

Will Rangers sack Danny Rohl if they fail to win the league?

If he goes, who would be a good replacement for him?

Mateusz Zukowski has scored 17 goals in 18 games this season

Mateusz Zukowski is having the season of his life at FC Magdeburg, scoring 17 goals in 18 league games this season.

Magdeburg play in Germany’s second tier, and the former Poland Under-21s international is the division’s top goal scorer.

After returning from surgery at the start of the season, the 24-year-old, who is a right-back by trade, was asked to play as a striker.

It proved to be a masterstroke, as Zukowski showed just how clinical he can be in front of goal.

Previously, he even played as a winger, but is now thriving as an out-and-out number nine.

Having played just once for Rangers, nobody would have thought he would go on to achieve the success that he has, especially in a different position.

Why did things not work out for Zukowski at Rangers?

Zukowski moved to Rangers from Lechia Gdansk in January 2022 for £400,000 on a four-year deal and was viewed as a long-term successor to James Tavernier.

He joined following the departure of Nathan Patterson to Everton, and it looked like the Gers had unearthed a gem.

However, with Tavernier being ever-present in the team, the Polish defender did not have the chance to prove himself for the first team.

He could only make one appearance for the club, which was in a Scottish Cup win over Annan Athletic.

Rangers also decided to loan him out to Lech Poznan a few months after he signed, and even included an option to buy.

It did not make sense as he was signed with a long-term view, but due to inconsistencies in the decision-making at the board level, he was shown the door without ever being given a chance to prove his worth.
