As Rangers blew a huge chance to cut the lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership by dropping points to Motherwell, a conversation is raging around club legend Allan McGregor.
In what could prove to be the 40-year-old stopper’s last season playing with the club, after failing to cover himself in glory for both Motherwell goals in a 2-2 draw there are some fans questioning his place in the side.
Last season’s Player of the Year and a club hero who has come up big so many times for Rangers, McGregor has been at the centre of much criticism this season.
As Motherwell pulled one back at Ibrox – the Gers eventually throwing away a two-goal lead – Calvin Bassey, Connor Goldson and Allan McGregor all came up short.
Specifically, McGregor let the ball run through his six-yard box for a tap in and for the second goal – after yet more calamitous defending – the Rangers keeper was beaten at his near post.
These follow major errors in clashes with Hearts and Ross County earlier in the season.

Allan McGregor also hasn’t been helped by a general frustration in the support surrounding a lack of rotation and it costing Rangers in big matches.
For the second game on the bounce, Rangers have stuck with much of the same team coming off Europa League duty and the support fundamentally believe it is costing the team.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst answered questions on Allan McGregor post-match and threw his support behind the under-fire goalie [Heart & Hand].
What happens next could be defining in Rangers’ season as the club’s support quickly turns from the elation of Dortmund to the frustration of Motherwell.
Get it wrong – with a perfectly able deputy on the bench – and given the consistency of the mistakes it’ll be van Bronckhorst and not McGregor who shoulders the responsibility in the weeks to come.
Rangers are losing patience with their underperforming side and the pressure is beginning to mount in a support increasingly unconvinced of the team’s title bottle.
