Rangers have nothing to lose by picking academy duo: view

Throwing young players into the Rangers first team can be a risky business, however, Steven Davis would be applauded for picking Bailey Rice and Ross McCausland.

The continued failure of players like John Lundstram and Scott Wright to show anything positive means that the interim Gers boss would be forgiven for swinging the axe.

If Rangers are to go into the international break without dropping more points, Bailey Rice and Ross McCausland should be given the chance to prove that they can be the future of the club.

Why Rangers should go with Bailey Rice and Ross McCausland

Rice in particular, despite only just turning 17, is one that fans want to see.

With no Steven Davis, Alex Lowry or Ianis Hagi, there is nobody capable of playing forward passes to break lines or find runners.

The lack of control against Aris Limassol was embarrassing.

If Rangers need Bailey Rice to improve our ball retention and passing in midfield, Ross McCausland is a no brainer on the right wing.

What has Scott Wright done last season or in the last two games to suggest that he should be given another chance against St Mirren?

McCausland looked more comfortable and in control in his 15 minute cameo than Wright did the whole game.

If Steven Davis keeps picking serial failures, don’t be surprised when they fail and let us down again.

There are players on the sidelines who will improve us when they come back from injury, but the fans will struggle to get behind ones who are showing no signs of entertaining or getting a positive result.

Rangers should play Bailey Rice and Ross McCausland for no other reason than they can’t do any worse than what is there already.

Sadly, it really has got that bad.
