Oscar Cortes’ Rangers career is expected to be finished as he delivers a clear indication in a recent interview.

The Colombian winger has struggled since his move to Ibrox as he has battled form and fitness issues over the years.

The 22-year-old, who is out on loan at Huracan, still has three more years left on his contract at Rangers.

Oscar Cortes makes his feelings clear about Rangers

In a recent interview, Cortes has admitted that things were not working out for him at Rangers.

He felt that the only thing he could do to salvage his playing career was to look for a move away from Glasgow.

That is why he decided that he had no option but to quit in the January transfer window, becoming one of seven players to be shown the door.

Thus far, Cortes has made only 21 appearances for the Ibrox outfit, and has previously gone out on loan to Sporting Gijon.

His stint in Spain also did not work out, but his current spell in Argentina seems to be paying dividends.

Huracan have the option to buy him, and given his recent comments, even if they do not take it up, Cortes will look for a permanent exit in the summer.

He told Win Sports: “My intention was to stay in Europe, but things were not working out.

“When I found out that Huracan wanted me, it was a nice thing.

“I did everything I could to get to Huracan.

“I spoke with the manager, I made the decision, and it was the best thing I could have done.

“I’m much better than before.”

What went wrong for Cortes at Ibrox?

While Cortes arrived at Ibrox as a relative unknown, there was some excitement surrounding his acquisition as fans were told that he was a skilful winger who could offer a goal threat.

However, little did they know that his time at the club would be marred by injuries.

He started strongly after arriving in January 2024, but a few weeks into his time at Rangers, he suffered a hamstring injury that ended his season.

The following season, he suffered thigh, knee and muscle issues, ruling him out for significant periods of time.

The winger was also unlucky to join at a time when there were managerial changes, as Philippe Clement was in charge when he was signed, but Danny Rohl clearly did not see him as the right fit for their first team.
