Oscar Cortes might not have scored for Rangers yet but it is clear that the Colombian has hit the ground running under Philippe Clement.
The 20-year old hasn’t played much this season, however, the Gers boss has been impressed in training, his displays against Ayr United and Ross County giving fans even more to be excited about.
Not signing any new wingers in the summer, other than Abdallah Sima, backfired but Oscar Cortes arriving at Rangers doesn’t seem to have solved an age-old problem, despite his obvious quality.

Oscar Cortes is creating another problem for Rangers
So far, the only place we have seen Cortes is on the left-hand side of the attack which is the position where Rabbi Matondo has a goal contribution almost every 90 minutes from in the league.
The flying Welshman has shown glipses of what he is capable of this season with fitness being his biggest issue.
You can’t argue with that sort of return playing in Rangers front three.
With two goals and an assist in his last five league games, Matondo is producing the goods when it matters most – although, against Ross County he could easily have walked off at half-time with the match ball.
For context, Ross McCausland has just one goal in the league all season despite playing more than double the minutes of Matondo but Clement is clearly a fan.
The Northern Ireland international is enjoying a fine debut season at senior level but he shouldn’t be starting key games when we need goals just yet.
Cortes drifted over to the right on a couple of occasions and still managed to create more chances last night, playing safe isn’t good enough for a Rangers winger.

This leaves Philippe Clement with a decision.
Who should start on Rangers right-wing?
The difference that we have seen from Oscar Cortes straight away is that he is clearly comfortable using either foot and is more likely to attack the space at the back post.
Matondo might not have the same control but his pace and directness causes Scottish defences all sorts of problems and he creates space for others too, he is the most dangerous out of him, McCausland and Scott Wright.
At this stage of the season, especially at home, we need as many goalscorers as possible on the pitch and Oscar Cortes and Rabbi Matondo are the two that Rangers can most rely on to get into the right positions.
Rotating them during games will also improve the variety of our attack and see us get behind packed defences more often.
What is clear though, is that there is still no favourite or first choice for the right-hand side of the attack and you would expect that to be near the top of Clement’s shopping list in the summer.
Another player like Cortes but one that is a natural lefty, wouldn’t go a miss.
