Nathan Young-Coombes always seemed like he was destined to succeed at Rangers.

The England youth international left Ibrox for personal reasons and hasn’t looked back since, a surprise move to the Premier League has seen the 20-year old continue to develop but there is more to come.

In his first season at Brentford, Nathan Young-Coombes hit over 30 goals for their B team and gained interest from other Premier League outfits.

The former Auchenhowie student made his Premier League debut last season but this summer sees the 20-year old with a decision to make.

Young-Coombes was recalled halfway through this season after a loan spell at Wimbledon where he scored three goals and create three assists in just 390 minutes of football.

Unfortunately, he never saw much action for Brentford when he returned.

Nathan Young-Coombes now has a decision to make after leaving Rangers

Out of contract at the end of 2024, NYC won’t be short of offers.

At Rangers, he was highly thought of, got good numbers and always seemed to rise to the big occasion with goals in UEFA Youth League games and Old Firm derbies.

Ironically, if he had stayed at Rangers, he probably would have seen more game time at senior level given his ability to play through the middle or off a central striker.

A spate of injuries to strikers means that a place on the bench probably would have been given to Young-Coombes.

Robbie Ure has played, as has Zak Lovelace but Young-Coombes is a better player than either of the current B team regulars.

It’s always good seeing former youngsters kick on and do well at a higher level but there isn’t a reason why they should be ignored as potential targets just because they have left before.

It would be a surprise if Brentford don’t offer Young-Coombes another contract before sending him out on loan again but, having recalled him this season, they maybe have bigger plans.

Home grown players are few and far between but NYC would, just, make it as one of our own but we would have to sign him this summer.

If NYC hadn’t been at Rangers before and we were linked, it would look like an exciting prospect but his price tag will have gone up considerably since he arrived at Auchenhowie as a fresh-faced 16-year old.

Michael Beale will have faced Young-Coombes in his time at Liverpool, as with Sam Lammers, maybe the Gers gaffer is keeping an eye on how his career is panning out.
