Former Rangers defender George Edmundson once against found the net for a resurgent Ipswich Town – but he couldn’t help the side from falling to a defeat against League One leaders Plymouth Argyle.

Edmundson was a reported £1m signing for the Tractor Boys this summer as Paul Cook overhauled the club’s first-team squad and set about earning them promotion to the Championship.

But things didn’t start out quite as well as George or Ipswich would’ve wanted amid injuries and a lack of squad cohesion which saw the side toil in the early part of the season.

An upturn in form has since followed and a trip to the league-leading Pilgrims always promised to be a difficult challenge for the Portman Road club.

Edmundson, 24, would net his second goal in Ipswich colours to nod the side in front at Home Park at the back post after only 14 minutes but they couldn’t hold on to the victory.

Luke Jephcott scored just before halftime to level proceedings before Conor Grant got the eventual winner about five minutes after the restart.

The result leaves Plymouth top of the table, two points above Wigan and Wycombe having played a game more with Ipswich occupying 11th place.

Fans will be watching Edmundson’s progress closely especially amid some defensive issues at Ibrox this season.

The defender left the club in the summer but Rangers have since went on to have issues at centre-back with Filip Helander injured and Jack Simpson struggling to impress.

This has lead to some questions of the backroom staff with Rangers now threadbare in this position.

Edmundson wasn’t the only Rangers connection in the match either with a former Ibrox striker currently lighting it up south of the border and tipped for Scotland.
