Fashion Sakala and Antonio Colak Rangers stay question answered

Fashion Sakala and Antonio Colak might not be everyone’s cup of tea but there is something that they do for Rangers as good as anyone.

Michael Beale will be expected to upgrade the forward department but it can’t be argued that the pair who scored against St Mirren contribute decent numbers.

In the league, Fashion Sakala has a strike rate of a goal or an assist every game in terms of minutes played, Antonio Colak has a goal every 108 minutes.

And yet, some Rangers fans still don’t rate them.

Nobody is saying that they are on the same level as a Michael Mols or Nikica Jelavic but their numbers speak for themselves.

There are too many key positions needing Michael Beale’s attention for him to attempt to move every player on that isn’t a nailed on starter.

If Sakala and Colak are third and fourth choice as part of a four-man forward line next season then we know what they can offer.

Neither should be starting European games or Old Firm derbies but if we play to their strengths rather than make them do something that they aren’t comfortable with then we will have success.

Fashion Sakala and Antonio Colak can contribute for Rangers next season

It’s no surprise to see Sakala’s numbers improve after Beale arrived when he has been able to cut in on his favoured right foot from the left.

Ryan Kent, who was once the subject of a reported £10m bid from Leeds United, might be the better footballer, technically, but Sakala has twice as many goals as the departing winger’s last two seasons combined.

For Colak, but for injury, he would easily have passed the 20-goal mark and possibly even 25 without taking penalties.

He isn’t Alfredo Morelos, so, we need to stop expecting him to do the same job but Colak has the better goals per minute ratio than the Colombian who Rangers rejected a £16m bid for.

Let him play the width of the posts, give him decent service and he will score goals.

Kyogo Furuhashi rarely gets involved in Celtic’s build up play and yet he has fired his side to the title with 27 league goals and 33 in total.

For around £1.8m in transfer fees combined, the pair have contributed to over 40 goals this season and have outperformed Morelos and Kent.

They aren’t perfect, but neither are they anywhere near as bad as some would have you believe.
