Danny Rohl to axe Ryan Naderi for Rangers vs Celtic after recent development

Ryan Naderi may be dropped from the Rangers starting eleven for the Scottish Cup quarter-final against Celtic.

Danny Rohl started Naderi as Rangers drew 2-2 against Celtic, but it was a decision that did not particularly pay off.

Kris Boyd expected a system change ahead of the game, and Rohl may actually take his advice into consideration for the next Old Firm derby.

This decision could see the January signing losing his starting berth.

Mohamed Diomande could start for Rangers ahead of Ryan Naderi

Rohl has deployed a 4-2-2-2 system that has given his side attacking fluidity, but they have been vulnerable defensively.

He could look to change things up for the Old Firm game after his go-to setup did not get the three points.

While it can be argued that a two-striker attack gets the best out of Youssef Chermiti, he would do well even if he’s leading the line by himself and has two attackers on the wings playing close to him and supporting him.

For the league game against Celtic, Boyd expected Andreas Skov Olsen to be dropped in place of Mohamed Diomande, but the Dane had a decent outing at Ibrox.

Diomande’s addition gives the Gers solidity and legs in the middle of the park, and that is certainly going to be needed against the Hoops.

He would come in place of Naderi and in case things are not working out, Rohl can always bring the German striker on in the second half.

What were Naderi’s stats against Celtic?

The towering forward was on the pitch for 64 minutes against Celtic, and it was an afternoon worth forgetting for him.

He failed to have a single attempt on goal and despite his frame, failed to be trouble defenders inside the penalty area.

According to Sofascore, Naderi lost all three of his attempted dribbles, highlighting failures to get past his man.

The 22-year-old completed only nine passes, which Rohl would not have been too happy about, as he was there for his hold-up play and getting others into the game so as to free up space for Chermiti.

He also lost 10 out of his 11 attempted aerial duels despite having a significant height advantage and also lost all four of his ground duels.
