Cyriel Dessers insists he has ‘unfinished business’ in his story at Rangers.
But unless the big Nigerian international striker gets those shooting boots fixed to his feet between now and May, Cyriel may well be leaving Ibrox with several chapters left unwritten.
Cyriel Dessers is Rangers’ form striker at the moment with the hitman’s five goals in his last seven games helping the club to progression in the Scottish Cup and Europa League.
With the Scottish Premiership out sight, how the 30-year-old’s Rangers story ends will be decided somewhere between Hampden and Bilbao.
And even if the big man is destined to leave Ibrox this summer, there is still time for him to do so a Rangers legend.
Cyriel Dessers to leave Rangers this summer?
Cyriel Dessers might have 18 goals for the season but a mid-season run of three goals in 16 Premiership matches has cost Rangers big this campaign.
Celtic are out of sight at the top of the Premiership and even if Rangers cut the 13 point gap, with 13 games to go there’s a feeling a title tilt is an insurmountable task.
The job of the Rangers number nine is to score the goals that crown the Gers champions and Cyriel Dessers looks set to fail in that duty for two seasons on the bounce.
Whilst the hitman is in a purple patch, Rangers needed more from Dessers at that crucial juncture of the campaign and the club can ill-afford another season where their main focal point comes up short.
Combine that with Dessers being 30 and the striker’s agents claiming Cyriel had 10 offers this January, then we reckon Rangers have no choice but to cash in this summer if they’re serious about player trading.
Cyriel remains a sellable asset and Rangers will hope to recoup close to the £4.5m they paid Cremonese for the striker’s services in 2023.
Time is running out to get a return on that investment and no matter what happens between now and May, the summer certainly feels like the right time to cash in.
Rangers striker can leave Ibrox a Europa League legend
Despite Rangers’ floundering league campaign – which we obviously don’t rest solely at the feet of Cyriel Dessers – there are still two big prizes to play for this season.
Victory in the Scottish Cup is a must and a failure to both lift the trophy and halt Celtic picking up another domestic treble will spell curtains for several in this squad.
The Europa League is also an outside bet for Rangers who, whilst not favourites for the competition, routinely punch above their weight at this level.

Cyriel Dessers has proven he has the quality to make a difference in Europe with that stunning goal against Manchester United further evidence of the striker’s inconsistent ability.
Having shot Feyenoord to the Conference League final of 2022, a similar repeat at Rangers will etch the likeable hitman’s name into the club’s history books.
It would also salvage his reputation amongst Rangers fans with the number nine jersey weighing all the heavier when there are no medals around your neck.
