Rangers are keen on signing at least another centre-back following Ben Godfrey’s arrival on loan from Atalanta.

With both Derek Cornelius and Nasser Djiga returning to their parent clubs, the Light Blues’ squad is light in the centre-back positions.

Derek McInnes has brought in a new keeper, right-back and centre-back, but is still looking for more options to bolster his backline.

Which players would you like to see featuring?

Mbekezeli Mbokazi (South Africa, Chicago Fire)

The best-recognised name from this list is South Africa centre-back Mbekezeli Mbokazi.

The 20-year-old had an incredible tournament for Bafana Bafana, as he was not just good defensively, but also immense with the ball at his feet.

South Africa were underdogs in each game they played and were constantly pressed high up the pitch.

However, that did not faze Mbokazi, who was extremely press-resistant, and calmly played through the lines, giving his side the best chance to win.

He played every minute for his country at the World Cup and is undoubtedly going to be on the radar of some clubs in Europe.

Which area should Rangers prioritise on strengthening this summer? 🤔

Andrew Cavenagh has made some bold promises!

Yazan Al-Arab (Jordan, FC Seoul)

Jordan may not have had a great World Cup, losing all three group games, but that does not mean they did not have standout performers in the team.

FC Seoul centre-back Yazan Al-Arab was the one who helped the scorelines stay respectable in his country’s favour.

The 30-year-old averaged 3.7 interceptions per game (365Scores), making him the best in that category compared to every other player at the World Cup to have made more than one appearance.

Given his age and experience of playing in the Middle East and now in Asia, he could be a handy backup to Emmanuel Fernandez and Godfrey.

Jose Canale (Paraguay, Lanus)

Paraguay showed just how resolute they can be defensively, giving both Germany and France a difficult time.

They even managed to get the win against Germany and conceded just one goal to France, who have arguably been the best team at the tournament.

One of the main reasons for their defensive solidity has been the centre-back Jose Canale, who is plying his trade at Argentine club Lanus.

He came off the bench to help Paraguay secure a clean sheet and qualification to the Round of 32, but it was the game against Germany for which he deserves his flowers.

The 29-year-old won all five of his attempted tackles and made a tournament-high 15 clearances to keep a world-class German attack at bay.
