Zeb Jacobs and Michael Beale laud Rangers player after Scottish Cup display

Zeb Jacobs and Michael Beale both praised Rangers talent Alex Lowry on Twitter following his excellent debut showing against Stirling Albion.

Lowry was named on the bench for the Scottish Cup Fourth Round tie but found himself entering the fray in just the 13th minute after Ianis Hagi picked up an injury.

We were hoping the 18-year-old would show all the confidence and creativity that he does week in week out in the Lowland League if he got his big chance and he certainly didn’t disappoint.

The Scotland youth international injected life into what had been a lacklustre start to the game from Rangers and he opened the scoring with a fine goal in the 31st minute.

He surged forward from the middle of the pitch before finding Juninho Bacuna, but it would only turn out to be a temporary loan of the ball, and when his teammate returned it to him just inside the box, Lowry cooly slid a finish into the bottom left corner.

He continued to impress thereafter and his performance was undoubtedly worthy of the Man of the Match award.

Bears raved about his efforts on social media, as did two prominent coaches.

Rangers Academy head of coaching Zeb Jacobs wrote: “Amazing! Patience, hard work and dedication.”

Meanwhile, former Gers first-team coach and current Aston Villa first-team coach Michael Beale, who said Lowry had the ‘potential to do very well’ prior to kick-off, tweeted: “Go on lad – a dream come true for him. Well done. A debut and a goal.”

It’ll no doubt be a brilliant weekend for Lowry as he comes to terms with his achievement.

Fixtures are coming thick and fast, though, and after a first taste of first-team action, he’s bound to be hungry for more.

Meanwhile, a Rangers-linked winger was left out of his current club’s squad on Friday after reportedly asking to leave.
