Rangers youngster Zak Rudden can become a “top, top player” according to Falkirk boss Ray McKinnon.

The 18-year-old striker has banged in three in three in the Scottish Championship since his loan move and is the latest hot prospect to come out of the Rangers academy.

Very positive words from McKinnon

Falkirk Manager McKinnon had many good things to say about Zak Rudden in an interview with the Falkirk Herald.

He said: “For an 18 year old to have the knack of scoring goals and being in the right place at the right time, and as I keep saying his work rate is phenomenal.

“He is just going to get better and better.

“In the next two or three years he will really improve, be that at Rangers or somewhere else.”

We’ll be hoping he does that at Ibrox for many years to come. Another goalscoring legend, Ally McCoist, is the striker’s hero. If he can do half as well as he did we’ll be doing pretty well. The youngster opened his account with a pre-season goal against Bury and Gerrard said it would “hopefully be the first of many”.

Future is bright for Rangers

Rudden is one of several prospects coming through the ranks at Rangers in an exciting time for the academy. Last season Rangers left the traditional Youth Development League format to experiment with matches against Europe’s top teams. The Young Gers more than held their own.

Glenn Middleton is in the first team. The likes of Jamie Barjonas and Ryan Hardie are to come back from loans. With the likes of Stephen Kelly, Jack Thomson, Mathew Shiels, Dapo Mepude and Serj Atakayi also pushing for spots in the first team squad, the future is bright at Auchenhowie.

And we can maybe expect to see a couple more of them breakthrough this season.
