Worrall needs games if Rangers want to sign him up

To sum up Joe Worrall at Rangers so far could be described simply as underwhelming but promising.

The contrast in emotions are because the centre-back has only made one appearance for the club. Yet, that appearance was a mightily impressive one against Villarreal in the Europa League last Thursday.

Steven Gerrard came out last week and apoke about the loan signings he would keep at the club. Whilst not speficically mentioning Worrall in those comments, he did touch on his Villarreal display.

Therefore, the door is certainly open for the Nottingham Forest centre-back to return if he performs. But if things stay the way they are, then that simply won’t be the case.

Back on the bench

Worrall was, as expected, dropped for Sunday’s visit 0f St Johnstone to Ibrox. Nobody was surprised by this as the partnership of Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson continues to be preffered. But if Worrall is to sign on past the summer, he’ll need to change that.

He’ll be up against it throughout the whole season. Katic and Goldson have built a huge relationship with supporters who love them for steering them into the Europa League. Their early-season displays were immense, even if chances are getting conceded a little too often these days.

As it stands, the pair looks undroppable for big games when both are fit. After all, Worrall only played on Thursday night because Katic looked like he was struggling in training.

If the Englishman is to be a permanent figure at Gers, Worrall is going to have to earn his way to a lot more games this season.

Nottingham Forest are unlikely to be too willing to sell, so Rangers are going to have to be convinced before putting big money on the table. Spending a lot of next season’s budget on a third-choice centre-back just won’t happen.

Therefore, it’s down to Worrall to start impressing on a weekly-basis if he wants the move to come to fruition. In the mean-time, he’ll be playing second-fiddle to Katic and Goldson.
