World Cup winner and former Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has named Rangers boss Steven Gerrard as his “icon player” in an all-time XI, describing the former midfielder as “the best player I’ve played with.”
The explosive former striker was speaking to Liverpool as he picked an all-time XI made up of players that the Spaniard played with.
Picking only three Liverpool players in the XI, Torres included Gerrard in the number 10 position alongside former Anfield teammates Javier Mascherano and Xabi Alonso in midfield.
“In the midfield, in the more advanced position is Steven Gerrard, this is my icon player,” said Torres [Liverpool].
“I need Steven in the team, in any system, in any team. [A] key player for me and obviously the most important player in that role as a number 10 in front of Mascherano and Alonso.
“The best player I’ve played with, I’ve said many times he is the player who completed my game.
“There is a before and after [Torres] since I started playing with him. [An] iconic player and captain of that team.
“I will be so happy to be able to play with him again.”

Alongside now Rangers boss Steven Gerrard, Torres named a range of incredible players who’d make up a pretty sensational XI.
This includes the likes of Andres Iniesta, Xavi, Carlos Puyol and David Villa.
The fact Torres names Gerrard as the best of this bunch is a sparkling testament to the Liverpool legend’s ability from a player who won almost everything as a player and famously moved to Chelsea in a £50m deal back in 2011.

Here’s Fernando Torres’ full XI:
3-5-2: Jan Oblak; Diego Godin, John Terry, Carlos Puyol; Xavi, Javier Mascherano, Xabi Alonso, Steven Gerrard, Andres Iniesta; David Villa, Fernando Torres
