Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told fans to expect no January signings as the Ibrox club enter the final two weeks of the January transfer window.

The Gers gaffer was speaking ahead of the Scottish Cup tie with Stranraer and suggested that whilst some bodies may be leaving Ibrox, there likely won’t be any coming in.

For many fans who want to push on and consolidate our position, this may come as a disappointment but Steven Gerrard has reiterated that this has been the club’s position all along.

“Unless something big happens to one of the players then I don’t predict anyone to come in,” said Gerrard [Rangers].

“I always said it would be a quiet month in terms of incomings and nothing’s changed on that.”

Should £5.5m Celtic investment be a source of concern?

Heading into the final four months or so of the season, there’s an argument here that Rangers should be trying to consolidate their position and push on.

As it stands, the Ibrox club are in prime position to make a go at lifting the league trophy and many will not want the club to rest on their laurels.

On the other side of that, January is notoriously difficult to secure value-for-money players and Rangers will not want to overspend on token signings.

Across the city, Celtic look likely to invest upwards of £5.5m on their squad.

The Parkhead club have already signed £3.5m Polish striker Patryk Klimala whilst reports suggest they are set to add the £2m signing of Ismail Soro in the coming days.

Their Old Firm derby defeat to Rangers has spurned them into action in the window and should these players settle quickly they have bolstered their squad for the title run-in.

Will Rangers regret not doing the same come May?

Or are we well enough equipped ourselves not to worry about what’s happening on the other side of Glasgow?
