When Hibs dismantled Celtic on Sunday, little people could’ve seen 19 year old Ryan Porteous being the hero of the day.
The Hibees centre back broke through into their first team last season. This year, he’s established himself as a first team regular. And against Celtic yesterday, he came of age a little. This was a big match and he completely commanded it from start to finish.
He wound up with the post-match champagne too for being Man of the Match.

Granted, it didn’t help Celtic were mince. But we’ll get to see him ourselves on Wednesday. And if he can cope with Alfredo Morelos, maybe he’ll catch Steven Gerrard’s eye too.
And why not? He’s young, Scottish and fills a position were Rangers will need reinforcements come the end of the season. Not that there wouldn’t be any stumbling blocks.
Numerous hurdles to jump if Rangers want Porteous
Ryan Porteous is signed to Hibs until 2023, so Rangers would probably have to shell out a pretty penny for him. There’s also no guarantee he’d do the business at Ibrox. It’s a gamble.

Hibs are also a nightmare for Rangers to deal with. You only have to look at the potentially career ending saga surrounding Scott Allan.
It’s a long shot. Porteous is clearly a talented player and is very well thought of in Scotland. He’s represented his country all the way up to Under-21 level. But does he represent shrewed financial business by the club?
And is he also at the standard we need to progress? I’m not convinced.
Speaking of centre backs who helped dismantle Celtic, is this Greek international on the verge of joining Rangers?
