Rangers fans have been made to wait to see new man Gareth McAuley kick a ball for the club.
Just after he signed the veteran centre back picked up a calf injury whilst on Northern Ireland duty. But it looks like that will be behind him as he returned to full training and will make the provisional squad for Livingston.
He offers years of Premier League experience to Rangers. He is comfortable on the ball and his knowledge of the game could prove invaluable across the season. Gerrard certainly intends to use him on the pitch.
Lafferty talked up the signing
The Ulsterman joined not long after international team mate Kyle Lafferty. The big striker announced his excitement at the time, even texting McAuley begging him to tell him it was true.
Lafferty obviously knows the former West Brom defender more than most and it will be interesting to see how Gerrard uses the 38-year-old centre back.
It also helps that like Lafferty, McAuley is a bluenose.
Rangers edging closer to full fitness
With the return of McAuley, it means Gerrard’s squad is slowly but surely returning to full fitness.
Rangers will still be without Ryan Jack for the trip to Almondvale, and Jamie Murphy is a long term absentee.
But Rangers are slowly getting to a strong position with competition across the squad.
Adding McAuley this Sunday will only add to that.
