Wigan Athletic fans have responded on social media after their club completed the signing of Jordan Jones from Rangers on a permanent deal.

Jones featured in four of the Gers’ five pre-season friendlies but failed to impress and it’s no great surprise to see him leave Ibrox.

During his loan spell at Sunderland over the second half of last season, he was linked with a number of English clubs [TEAMtalk].

And recently, Football League World credited the Black Cats, Wigan, Ipswich Town and Blackpool with interest.

That report suggested that Ipswich were favourites, but the Latics eventually won the race for his signature, signing him on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

“I’m over the moon – the move has been in the pipeline for a few weeks so I’m just thankful to be here and I cannot wait to get started and kick on,” he said [Wiganathletic.com]

“I spoke to the manager and a few of the players, and it seems there is such a positive vibe around the place at the minute – it’s something that I want to be a part of.”

Wigan have bounced back from a precarious financial position and are hoping to push for promotion from League One during the upcoming season, having already made a number of summer signings.

The DW Stadium is a good destination for the Northern Ireland international, who is quick and talented, but who struggled with consistency, discipline and injuries at Ibrox.

Wigan fans are delighted with the signing, expressing their joy on social media.
