The wife of former Rangers captain Lee Wallace has paid tribute to Ibrox supporters for unfurling a banner of support for her husband ahead of the recent demolition of Hearts.
Steph Wallace took to Twitter to brand the Rangers support “the best fans” after they showed their appreciation for the ex-Ibrox skipper for his some eight years of service to the club.
Rangers fans had moved to unveil a special banner for Lee Wallace after the left-back had announced his retirement earlier in the week.
Wallace is highly-regarded amongst Rangers fans for sticking with the club after the events of 2012 and eventually captaining the side back into the Scottish Premiership.
The banner was short but sweet and encapsulated the feeling the Ibrox faithful have towards the former Hearts and Scotland star.
It read: “Lee Wallace, for the badge, not the money.”
Rangers fans had taken the tribute into their own hands after the Ibrox club were criticised by supporters for not commending Lee Wallace following his retirement.

The left-back stuck by the club in their darkest hour but left under a cloud of controversy, with Wallace joining ex-striker Kenny Miller in an infamous bust-up with Graeme Murty.
Whilst the details of the situation remain sketchy, both players were suspended for the clash which took place after a 4-0 Scottish Cup humbling against Celtic in 2018.
Kenny Miller was released under the expiration of his contract that summer whilst Lee Wallace saw out the final year of his in the background of Steven Gerrard’s squad following the Scouser’s appointment months later.
It left a bad taste in the mouth of Rangers fans with Lee Wallace heading to QPR where he played under former manager Mark Warburton for three years before retiring.
The ex-Rangers boss also paid tribute to his former captain and claims Lee Wallace was absolutely a Premier League quality defender.

“When he came to QPR he was getting older and I often spoke to people down here about Lee, saying we couldn’t have afforded to get him if we went back five or six years because he was so good,” Warburton told the Rangers Review.
“He would have been the best left-sided defender in the Championship, without a doubt. He’d have gone to the Premier League.”
Meanwhile, an £18m Belgian winger has shown Rangers the route to glory in the Champions League.
