Rangers are currently nine points behind in the title race, with today’s game against St Mirren in hand. They certainly can’t afford to fall any further behind.
Many are writing them off already as it is.
It will definitely take a big effort for Gers to be hauled back into contention but similar did last happen last season so it is not impossible.
Philippe Clement’s side will need to beat St Mirren today and Aberdeen midweek to avoid falling further behind the Dons and Celtic but have been told they are now under “mega pressure” for those two games.
Connor Barron ‘convinced’ Rangers can still challenge for the title
The convincing win over FCSB on Thursday night was a start as a response to losing at Kilmarnock last Sunday.
They must now look to keep that going.
Midfielder Connor Barron was impressive in that game after struggling at Rugby Park despite a good start to life at Rangers.
And he insists he is convinced the team can still challenge for the title if they can replicate that performance.
He said, as per the Daily Record: “Really convinced. We need to show more of what we did on Thursday night and we’ll be fine.
“We know what we need to do. We showed a reaction in midweek but we can’t stop now. That needs to be what we do every week.
“It can’t just be a one-off performance from us. We’re a team in there. The noise on the outside is just noise. That’s not something we can affect. We just need to make sure we do our jobs now, getting three points whenever we play.
“We need to continue this into Sunday against St Mirren. The European game is done now, so we go again, move on and focus on St Mirren.”

Barron is of course correct to say that if the team can keep playing like that they will be on the right track.
The problem is that they can’t keep that consistency in performance.
But the ex-Aberdeen man admits those high standards of effort and application should be a given when wearing the famous blue jersey.
“It was a bit more like it on Thursday night, definitely. It was good,” he added.”
“We obviously had to show a reaction and we came out the traps fast. We didn’t drop our standards, they were always high in the game.
“But that’s something that should be a given when you wear this shirt. From now on, that’s how it needs to be every week, in every single game.
