Kenny Miller’s red card for Dundee against Rangers was a disappointing moment for all that watched Saturday’s game.
The former Gers hero was red carded for a nasty challenge on Borna Barisic. There’s no doubt Miller was going for the ball, but his aggression was too much and he found himself walking up the tunnel.
There’ll be more meetings in the future between Miller and Rangers. This wasn’t a one-off, and he’ll be tasked with firing Dundee to Premiership safety throughout the season.
But Saturday was a big day for Miller on his return to Ibrox as an opposition player. In typical Miller fashion, he worked his back-side off for his side just like he did for Rangers in three different spells.
A disappointing episode
We’re talking about a veteran who scored so many big goals for the Ibrox club. He was happy to drop down to the lower leagues and help Rangers fight their way back up. He scored 116 goals in an eight-year love affair at Ibrox.
To sum it up, Miller deserves to be remembered fondly despite his controversial exit from the club. It’s also important to acknowledge that the fans recognised this as the veteran walked off the pitch after his red card on Saturday.
Even though the challenge on Barisic was a poor one and worthy of a red, supporters put it to one side and applauded their former hero. It was a touching moment that saw all of the controversy surrounding Miller and the club put on the shelf for now.
Despite his form dipping as he got older in recent seasons, Miller can still be considered a Rangers legend. The work and the tireless shifts he has put in for the Ibrox club is incredible.
There’s no denying Miller will come again. When Rangers travel to Dens Park in their next meeting, he’ll be ready for another fight. The Gers will have to be ready for that as he continues to be a huge threat.
It wasn’t the fairy tale scenario the former Gers striker would’ve hoped for, but he’ll be back in the future.
