In fairness to Charlie Nicholas, he has faced up to the prospect of a Rangers title challenge from day one.
The ex-Celtic striker has taken some gripe for it online, but he’s been honest and genuine. Which is more than can be said for the likes of Chris Sutton and John Hartson.
Nicholas isn’t just facing up the challenge, he says he is “seriously concerned”. And so he should be.
Gerrard revolution has changed mood at Ibrox
Gerrard’s appointment at Ibrox was met with jeers from some sections of the media. Now, many of them are eating humble pie.
The ex-Liverpool hero has instilled a belief and confidence in the team and in the stand that Rangers can challenge. And one-by-one the Celtic support are starting to open their eyes to it. It was never supposed to be this way for them.

Nicholas told Sky Sports: “I’ve said since day one there’s a genuine title challenge there,”
“They are a giant club and now they’ve got an iconic manager. There’s no doubt Gerrard has improved the quality – now they are starting to gel and starting to believe.
“Rangers lost seven league games at home last season – that will not happen this season.”
Celtic capitulation hard to take for some pundits
It’s been hard to take for your Chris Suttons and John Hartsons.
Last season they were talking of £30m players, of world-class prospects and of 10IAR. Whilst it’s important not to be complacent, it’s been enjoyable watching these old warhorses toil with an improved Rangers.
And their frustrations with a capitulating Celtic.
Whilst many pundits and Celtic fans haven’t woke up to the prospect of a challenge yet. Like Charlie Nicholas, they surely will do soon.
For Rangers, it’s just about focusing on one game at a time. And giving a wry smile every time one of their mercenary’s quietly fizz.
