Where Rangers go next after Michael Beale disaster

Rangers made a mess of the last managerial appointment, Giovanni van Bronckhorst might have been the man who let a lead in the league slip, but Michael Beale lost three games out of his first seven this season.

Ianis Hagi is away on loan, over 40 goals have been lost with the sales of Antonio Colak and Fashion Sakala and confidence is at rock bottom.

After what was hailed as a safe pair of hands, where do Rangers go now after sacking Michael Beale?

How Rangers should replace Michael Beale

What Celtic proved by appointing Ange Postecoglu is that style is more important than how many medals a manager might have won and whether or not they have European football experience.

Is it too easy to copy them and appoint a manager with a proven track record in terms of system and approach rather than one who has won trophies with an approach that wouldn’t be suitable in Scotland?

Giovanni van Bronckhorst was a pragmatist who got it right at home and in Europe but he just couldn’t find the right balance away from home in the league and it cost him his job.

The next manager has to be a hybrid between the two.

Someone who can be pragmatic in Europe but take advantage of the home crowd and recent record at Ibrox, as well as being able to set Rangers up to do all the things Michael Beale said he was going to do.

Attack, entertain, play with the handbrake off.

Names will be mentioned on a daily basis and with no sporting director Rangers fans have to hope that the board can see what everyone else can.

Actions speak louder than words.

Go for a manager who can back up what they say.
