Rangers have been quiet in terms of adding depth to their team, however, Philippe Clement has seen his job made easier by a new member of backroom staff.

The appointment of Issame Charai will lessen the load for the manager, with the Belgian coach replacing the departed Andries Ulderink, who has returned to the Netherlands for personal reasons.

Charai will have been known to Clement and Nils Koppen for some time and they will have crossed paths when he was in charge of Morocco’s Under-23 side where, despite doing well, he has politely declined offers from club teams to join Rangers

Issame Charai knows where Rangers success could take him

Speaking to Nieuwsblad, Charai is determined to reach the top of his trade and isn’t content with just being a No.2:

“Belgium is the country where I was trained as a player and later also as a coach,” the former RC Strasbourg assistant manager said of his formative years.

“I have worked there for the past ten years and know the competition very well.

“That is why I would like to work there as a head coach at the highest level.

“I have spoken to some nice clubs in Morocco, but it never felt quite right to actually sign there.”

Charai has had offers to go into clubs like Anderlecht as an assistant, but his dream of being a manager has seen him land up at G51 and Ibrox

Could Charai achieve manager dream at Rangers?

Sometimes, an offer is too good to turn down and he maybe sees this as the perfect opportunity to showcase his coaching ability close to the promised land of the Premier League.

What it might also offer, is a pathway to management should Philippe Clement move on.

Replacing and hiring and entire coaching team every time a manager leaves or is sacked is an expensive business and Rangers need to start planning for the future.

If Charai does a good job, not only might he get his wish of a good offer from Belgium, he might end up in the hot seat of one of the most pressurised jobs in football.
