Back in 2014, former Rangers captain, Barry Ferguson, claimed that Lewis MacLeod was the “brightest young prospect in Scotland for a long time.”
The midfielder came through the youth setup at Rangers and immediately left an impression.
He made 52 league appearances for the Gers over three years in the first team, scoring 11 times.

Yet, in January 2015, he decided his future lay elsewhere.
Still only 20, he moved to Brentford for a significant £1.15 million.
Unfortunately, though, things didn’t start off on the right foot.
A hamstring injury proved a stumbling block over his first few months with the Bees.
He wouldn’t make his competitive debut until the playoffs, in May.

Over the last few campaigns, further injuries, including a serious knee problem, have plagued MacLeod.
Yet, finally, this season, he began to establish himself as a first team regular.
In 16 Championship appearances, he has registered three goals and an assist.
The most recent of those strikes, was a last minute equaliser away at West Brom at the start of December.
However, it appears further fitness issues have reared their head. He hasn’t featured again since.

MacLeod’s future remains relatively uncertain, after he reportedly refused a contract extension at Griffin Park back in October.

It would be a real shame to see such a massive talent, go unfulfilled.
