Rangers are set to snap up athletic Dundee midfielder Glen Kamara and Killie winger Jordan Jones on pre-contract agreements. The Herald are reporting that both are set for medicals at the club and will join up with Rangers come the end of the season.
Kamara is a dynamic, physical defensive midfielder and is a robust signing from Gerrard. But he fulfils a similar role to “destroyer” Lassana Coulibaly.
The on-loan Angers midfielder began his Rangers career on fire but has since went off the boil. What does Glen Kamara’s potential signing mean for the defensive midfielder’s future?

There is a clause in Coulibaly’s contract that would allow Rangers to sign the midfielder, should they meet the fee. The Malian international also said last week that he would love to stay at the club.
However, I can’t see Rangers lumping millions on the midfielder unless he improves in the second half of the season. Coulibaly was superb in the first stretch of the footballing year but fell away after an injury.

There was also talk of personal tragedy in his life, for which he was given compassionate leave.

Has Glen Kamara been signed to save money on the midfielder and take his place? Perhaps. But perhaps Gerrard envisages a squad with both players.
If Coulibaly wants to stay at the club then he shouldn’t be thinking about us signing Kamara. He should be aiming to give us no choice but to sign him because of his performances.
