What areas does Steven Gerrard think Rangers can “probably get better”?

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has claimed that there are still areas of the team which could “probably get better” ahead of the January transfer window.

But the Ibrox gaffer suggested that the club will only move for someone should they improve what they already have.

Shifting the emphasis onto clearing out the bulked up squad’s deadwood, Gerrard did say the squad is in a “good place”.

“I’m not sure players will be out there in January to improve on what we’ve got,” explains Gerrard [the Herald].

“Obviously, if something pops up where we think it’ll strengthen us, Ross and I will look at it.

“But the next window will be more to downsize in terms of numbers. Because there are two or three who need to go and play. I’m finding it hard to get them into the 18.

“The squad’s in a good place. It’s not perfect, there’s still some areas we can probably get better.

“But is January the right time to do that?

“It will be very hard to find someone better than a Ryan Jack, a Connor Goldson, a Joe Aribo or an Alfredo Morelos.”

The comments absolutely suggest that Rangers will be downsizing come January and not just for the financial benefit of the club, but also for those players struggling to get into the side.

But where does Gerrard see imbalance or areas where we could improve?

It’s refreshing to hear the Rangers boss reiterate that the club is always on the hunt for new talent, but it’s hard to put a finger on where we need reinforcements.

Rangers are suitably well-stocked in defence, the midfield is competitive and upfront Rangers have the two best strikers in the country.

It’s little wonder Gerrard expects little investment come the window.

But whilst the club also has an abundance of wide talent, for the most part, these players naturally play on the left.

That could suggest that the area of the pitch with the least strength in depth is on the right flank.

With Liverpool loanee Sheyi Ojo arguably the most natural right-winger at the club, is it on the right flank where Gerrard thinks we could improve in the coming window?
