Neraysho Kasanwirjo has returned to Feyenoord as Philippe Clement confirms the devastating extent of the Rangers loanee’s injury.

The 22-year-old defender had impressed since joining Rangers on a loan-to-buy deal from the Eredivisie side in the summer.

But after suffering a painful injury whilst playing for the Netherlands U21s, Neryasho Kasanwirjo might’ve already played his last game for Rangers.

That’s because the right-back’s loan deal has been cut short due to a devastating injury which will keep the player out for up to six months.

Despite that, Clement has failed to rule out the player returning to Rangers come the end of the season, with the news a bitter blow to the defender.

Neraysho Kasanwirjo injury blow

“The operation for (Neraysho Kasanwirjo) was good, but he will be at least out for four to six months,” Clement told the Rangers Review. “So we cannot count on him.

“So we will see at the end of the season how things go. We have an agreement with Feyenoord that he will do his rehab also there.

“But I stay in touch with Nana, who was really disappointed not to continue the work he’s been doing because he loves the club, he loves the dressing room, he even loves the staff – that doesn’t happen much!

“So we will see at the end of the season how it will be with him, but we cannot count on him the next couple of months.”

Rangers to look for January transfer alternatives

The comments from Philippe Clement come after Neraysho Kasanwirjo uploaded a post-surgery image to Instagram.

The likeable big defender thanked everyone for their support as he now looks to recover and rebuild after seeing a promising career paused by injury problems.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has also previously hinted at moving for a Neraysho Kasanwirjo alternative in the January transfer window.

“It’s really hard because he was adapting really well to the club, to the mentality here,” Clement said last week.

“He showed good things in the games, in the trainings, and he was showing the right quality for Rangers, so it’s a big blow for all of us.

“Nana played right-back, left-back, centre-back also. So it’s in three positions you lose a player. So that’s a blow.

“That’s something to think about towards January also and we need to see which fronts we have to solve it in that way.”

The news also comes as Dujon Sterling prepares to see a ‘specialist’ over a trapped nerve in the coming days.

The Rangers right-back missed the 1-0 Scottish Premiership win over St Johnstone with James Tavernier coming back into the team.

However, the Gers manager suggested Sterling could be back in the squad for the visit of Kilmarnock on Wednesday evening.
