There was disappointment for Scott Arfield, but a boost for Rangers over the weekend, as Canada crashed out of the CONCACAF Gold Cup at the hands of Haiti.
It means that Gers lynchpin Arfield will be able to return to Rangers’ pre-season training earlier than if the Reds had progressed to the semi-final or final.

28 minutes into the fixture against the Caribbean island nation, there only looked like being one result.
That’s as free-scoring Lucas Cavallini had just made it 2-0 to the Reds. A place in the final four beckoned.
However, ex-St Mirren striker Duckens Nazon initiated a stunning second-half fightback which eventually saw Haiti triumph 3-2.

On an individual level, Arfield impressed at the tournament. He scored in the opening game against Martinique, pulled the strings in the 7-0 thumping of Cuba and notched the assist for Cavallini’s quarter-final strike.
As shown by a clip posted by fan account Rangers Culture, the assist oozed quality.

Just inside the Haitian half, Arfield spins his man, before sliding an inch-perfect ball through to Cavallini, who rounds the keeper and slots home a finish.
The clip will have plenty of Bears excited for the coming season. The 30-year-old netted 11 times and registered six assists across the last league campaign. Now that he’s settled in an advanced role at club level, he will be hoping to better that this time around.
