The situation with Alex Lowry at Rangers has left a few supporters scratching their heads.
When the young playmaker came off the bench to replace Ianis Hagi against Stirling Albion in 2022, Lowry’s debut goal exemplified his early promise at Ibrox.
But fast forward two years and Alex Lowry is nowhere near the Rangers first-team despite the club’s clear dearth of creative options in the illusive ‘number ten’ position.
Currently turning out for the Rangers B team, a clip of the 21-year-old netting a long-range stunner against Clyde has gone viral with fans left wondering what is actually going on.

Lowry nets stunning goal
The Rangers B team has seen a couple of high-profile stars turn out in recent weeks.
Romanian international playmaker Ianis Hagi even netted a hat-trick against a Derby County XI earlier in the month.
But it was Alex Lowry’s turn to grab the attentions of frustrated supporters on an entertaining night at New Douglas Park in Hamilton.
Lowry was the hero with a double either side of 17-year-old Callum Burnside scoring for Rangers in a 3-2 win over the Bully Wee.
Whilst the midfielder scored twice in the game, it was a stunning long-range equaliser with the Gers 1-0 down which caught the eye of supporters.
Alex Lowry cut inside from out left and curled a perfect right foot shot into the top corner to inspire an impressive second half performance.
Where is Rangers playmaker?
The stunning Alex Lowry strike comes at a moment of great uncertainty in the playmaker’s Rangers future.
Having seen a loan spell with Hearts cut short last season, Lowry suffered an injury on his return to Ibrox and has struggled to break into Philippe Clement’s plans since.
The situation with Lowry also comes at a time when Rangers are without high-profile attacking midfield pair Ianis Hagi or Todd Cantwell.
Whilst Hagi’s situation is the subject of much speculation surrounding potential wage clauses, Todd Cantwell has been forced into the Rangers B team after requesting to leave the club.
Rangers have instead opted with Welsh playmaker Tom Lawrence in the early part of the season but the 30-year-old has struggled to properly influence matches.
Despite Rangers looking increasingly short in the position, Alex Lowry has reportedly been told he can leave Ibrox.
As Rangers toil for creativity in the final third, Lowry’s stunning B Team strike is sure to turn heads and turn up the pressure on Philippe Clement.
Whilst Rangers have given their backing to the Belgian manager with a new contract, without results Clement’s decision-making is under increasing scrutiny.
