Was this first half showing the only positive Rangers can draw from today?

There weren’t many positives to take from Rangers showing against St. Johnstone this afternoon, but in the first half at least, there was a little glimpse of what’s to come.
Glen Kamara was composed, controlled and classy in the middle of the park as the rest of the side toiled. Rangers struggled to create much in the opening period – but incredibly we came much closer in the first half then the second. Rangers performed worse after half time.
Part of our transitional play was made possible by a calm Kamara in the middle. He rarely panicked. He seemed to make the right decision consistently. Kamara looked like he was enjoying himself.

But the entire Rangers side didn’t match the Finnish international’s control in the middle. We rushed the ball about the park, struggling to string a series of passes together. Not through the want of trying, but rather through our lack of patience.

When we had the ball we hurried it forward, instead of breathing in possession. But Kamara crunched into tackles and was very useful in recycling the football. He showed us a glimpse of what’s to come.
But in the second, like the rest of the team, the midfielder really struggled. Rangers were stretched, our midfield non-existent and even Kamara’s calmness from the first half evaporated.

We were atrocious, but Kamara’s brief midfield display was a faint flicker of positivity in an otherwise turgid performance.
The Finnish international originally signed a pre-contract for June in the last transfer window. Fans were delighted when he eventually joined in January after protracted transfer talks.
