German outfit VfL Bochum have been officially promoted to the German Bundesliga amid links to Rangers midfielder Ianis Hagi.

The Bundesliga 2 side were officially crowned Champions of the German second tier as the curtain came down on the division’s season and Bochum defeated SV Sandhausen 3-1.

The result confirmed Bochum would finish the season as division winners, finishing three points above nearest rivals Greuther Fürth.

As the club prepares for an assault on the German top tier and to rub shoulders with the likes of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, Rangers playmaker Hagi is reportedly a prime target.

According to Sport.ro, discussions are already underway regarding a potential move for Romanian international Hagi from Bochum.

Signed permanently in the summer for a reported £3m, Hagi is contracted to Rangers until 2024 and is an important member of the squad.

If Rangers are tempted to sell the player – who finished the season the Premiership’s top assister (12) – then it’s expected clubs will need to cough up.

The same publication – Sport.ro – claimed that Lazio were eyeing up a £11m (€13m) bid for the player this summer.

Not only does that suggest Bochum would have competition, but it also gives an inclination into the sorts of prices being attached to the 22-year-old.

There’s still been plenty of speculation about his future, and even La Liga Sevilla [Fichajes] have been credited with an interest.

Whilst Rangers fans will value Hagi highly, one former Romanian footballer has made a bold claim regarding a potential low-price release clause in the ex-Genk star’s contract.
