Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has confirmed that Steven Gerrard sent him an email after becoming Ibrox manager and that he’ll be in dialogue with the now Premier League boss over the next few weeks.

That’s according to van Bronckhorst himself, who made the revelation as the manager was unveiled to the press for the first time.

Many Rangers fans have been scorned by Gerrard’s sudden exit from Ibrox with his former team collapsing at Hampden over the weekend against Hibs and adding insult to injury.

Supporters are particularly perturbed by Gerrard’s near radio silence on the Ibrox exit and the swift nature of it but clearly behind the scenes his presence is still relevant.

van Bronckhorst has some work to do in a squad devoid of confidence and the ex-Feyenoord gaffer has confirmed he’ll be in touch with the now Aston Villa manager over the next period.

“He sent me a message by email which was really nice. I think we will definitely be in contact in the coming weeks to talk all about stuff,” said van Bronckhorst [Rangers].

“He did a really great job at Rangers and has now moved to the Premier League with Aston Villa.

“I personally wish him all the best and I’m sure there will be some contact in the next few weeks.”

The Ibrox manager also addressed the underwhelming result against Hibs at Hampden which has sent a shockwave through a bitterly disappointed support.

Speaking to the press, Gio admitted he wasn’t happy with the result but claimed he’d rather discuss it when he meets the players for the first time tomorrow.

“Not happy with the result yesterday,” said van Bronckhorst.

“I can see some things that I want to change, what we have to better at. As my first meeting will be with the players tomorrow, it’s better to tell them first.

“Look them in their eyes, and make sure from tomorrow on we do everything to be successful with this club and that’s my goal.”

Rangers also remain on the hunt for a new member of the Ibrox backroom staff and the manager has confirmed they’re looking for a “quality” addition.
