Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst is hoping for a triple availability boost for Sunday’s Premiership fixture against Dundee United [RangersTV].

A number of first-team players didn’t travel to Germany for Thursday evening’s shock 4-2 Europa League win over Dortmund.

Ianis Hagi and Leon Balogun both missed out through injury, while Filip Helander was ineligible after being left out of the official Europa League squad.

Their absences were expected, but it was a surprise that second choice goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin and forwards Kemar Roofe and Fashion Sakala all also missed out.

During a press conference on Friday morning, van Bronckhorst confirmed that the trio had been unavailable.

He didn’t elaborate on their respective injuries but suggested that they could all return at the weekend.

“We brought the squad to Germany with the players who were available,” said the Rangers manager [RangersTV].

“We couldn’t bring them with us but we will see today and hopefully they can be involved in the squad on Sunday.”

As it turned out, Rangers didn’t need McLaughlin, Roofe or Sakala to dish out a drubbing in Dortmund.

It would certainly be useful to have the latter two players in particular back available for Sunday, though.

The Gers lost 1-0 at Tannadice earlier in the season and United are unbeaten in four matches across all competitions, keeping clean sheets in all four.

Roofe and Sakala have 12 goals and two assists between them in the league so far this season.

Meanwhile, a versatile Rangers-linked attacker is back impressing at his current club and could be available on a free at the end of the season.
