Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst faces a selection dilemma ahead of the crunch Europa League tie against Borussia Dortmund next week, with the left-back position being one that many are worried about.

With mainstay Borna Barisic coming in for some tough treatment as of late due to his poor form, and Calvin Bassey deputising in the middle of the backline due to injuries, there is a dilemma on the Dutchman’s hands.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst faces tough decision against Borussia Dortmund

The manager is facing some defensive problems at the minute, with Balogun coming off against Hearts, and Helander not quite ready to start a crucial European match, then the boss might have to stick with the Croatian at left-back.

Either that or he slots new signing James Sands into the heart of defence and moves Bassey across to his preferred position. Whatever happens, there will potentially be some shuffling of players.

As difficult a tie it may be for the Ibrox side, they can take solace in the fact Dortmund hasn’t exactly been tearing the Bundesliga up as of late.

They currently sit second, yet have lost two of their previous three matches, a German Cup exit to lowly St. Pauli and a 5-2 thrashing by Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend.

With a tie against Annan Athletic to come on Saturday evening for Rangers, which can allow Gio to rest a few bodies and potentially play a few youngsters, the onus will be on getting the team right for the Europa League clash.

Regardless of what happens, the side has as good a chance as any, of course, Dortmund has Erling Haaland, but we have Alfredo Morelos, who has been on fire recently.

It’s going to be a mouth-watering tie and one the neutrals will love.

Meanwhile, Gio may be set to hand a youth starlet just his second first-team start against Annan in the Scottish Cup.
