Under-fire Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson has been named as a “key factor” in the Ibrox club moving for QPR boss Michael Beale.

The Gers have announced ex-Liverpool and Chelsea youth coach Beale as their 18th manager as the club move quickly to appoint a successor to Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

But whilst the Dutch coach carried the can for a downturn in domestic form at Rangers, there is still much scrutiny on Ross Wilson and the other directors for failing to fix the roof whilst the sun was shining when Beale was last at the club.

Amongst the biggest complaints is with regards transfers and a stagnant, ageing Ibrox squad with plenty of key assets in the final years of their deals heading into the remainder of the season.

Rangers have also shown a propensity for signing crocks with half the first-team injured at various points of the season and fans growing wary of a summer squad turnover.

Ross Wilson relationship a “key factor” in Rangers Michael Beale deal

The Gers have clearly backed Michael Beale to be the man to help drive this with sporting director and recruitment guru Ross Wilson a key player in the market.

David Ornstein of the Athletic has claimed that, far from be a blockage to the move, the relationship between Ross Wilson and Michael Beale has been lauded as a “key factor” in Rangers moving for the manager.

Couple this with claims in the Daily Record that Michael Beale sought assurances regarding a transfer budget, and it would suggest Rangers and Ross Wilson have presented a promising case in order to secure the highly-rated coach.

There have also been claims that the Rangers board were split regarding the next appointment, with Ross Wilson fulling backing Michael Beale and others focused on ex-Burnley manager Sean Dyche.

Every appointment is a risk and Rangers appear to have put their eggs in the Michael Beale basket.

But should things once again fail to come together at Ibrox under the new coach, then we suspect it will be more than the manager risking the chop with more scrutiny on Ross Wilson than ever before.

The appointment has certainly turned heads and sent shockwaves through arrogant pundits south of the border.
