UEFA Europa League account poses Rangers and Celtic question, Bears respond emphatically

The official UEFA Europa League Twitter account posed a question about Rangers and Celtic on Tuesday and Bears responded emphatically.

After securing four wins and a draw from five Old Firms last season, the Gers triumphed 1-0 in the first derby of the 2021/22 campaign on Sunday.

Filip Helander’s 66th-minute header sent Ibrox wild and secured early-season bragging rights.

Around 48 hours after the Premiership clash, in a rather transparent attempt to stimulate engagement, the UEFA Europa League account picked up on the Old Firm theme.

Tweeting to the account’s 8.5m followers, the admin wrote: “Rangers = Old Firm winners,” followed by a clapping emoji and a question. “Which side will go further in the UEL this season?”

The post attracted plenty of attention, with Rangers’ own official account retweeting it later on Tuesday.

Rangers reached the Last 16 of the 2020/21 edition of the competition, while Celtic crashed out early on after finishing bottom of Group H.

It was the latest instance of the Gers outperforming the Hoops in European competition and plenty of fans expect something similar to happen this season.

Rangers have been drawn in Group A alongside Lyon, Sparta Prague and Brøndby and their campaign gets underway with a home fixture against Lyon on 16 September.

Celtic have been drawn in Group G with Bayer Leverkusen, Real Betis and Ferençvaros and their opening fixture is away at Betis.

Meanwhile, a journalist has suggested that there could soon be a development concerning a Rangers player despite the transfer window closing on Tuesday night.
