David Edgar was impressed with Tuur Rommens’ display as Rangers picked up the three points against St Mirren.

In what was a must-win game for the Light Blues at Paisley, they delivered the goods and narrowly got over the line, winning 1-0.

Rommens, who started the game at left-back, scored the only goal for the visitors in the 31st minute of the contest.

David Edgar believes Tuur Rommens could become Rangers captain

Apart from Rommens’ goal, a lot was spoken about his leadership and how he led by example.

The left-back only joined the Gers in January and has already become among the first names on the team sheet for Danny Rohl.

Rangers paid around £3m to sign the 22-year-old from Westerlo, and it is proving to be money well spent thus far.

Against St Mirren, he ranked first among the Light Blues’ players for key passes (5), xG assisted (0.67), passes into the box (7) and successful crosses (4).

Edgar, the host of the Heart and Hand Podcast, was asked about him being a future captain, given his performances since joining.

To which, he responded on X, saying: “Leave him to settle in this season but certainly in contention.”

Does the lack of updates suggest James Tavernier is on his way out?

Usually, when club captains and top earners are in the final few months of their deal, there are updates about their future one way or the other.

However, for Tavernier, there does not seem to be much happening, and even when he’s asked about it, he claims that he is taking things one week at a time.

It will be a big financial decision, too, for the hierarchy, as the 34-year-old is among the highest-paid players and is unlikely to be a regular next season.

He undoubtedly would be a valuable presence inside the dressing room, but they will have to consider the finances before handing him a new deal.

There is a high possibility that he is in the final months of his Rangers career, but there most certainly will be further talks held in the coming weeks.
