Eric Caldow was a versatile full-back who loved a challenge and was blessed with blistering pace. He broke through into the Rangers side as a 19 year old, playing alongside the likes of Woodburn, Cox and Waddell.
He would also go on to play alongside the likes of John Greig and Willie Henderson. Born in Cumnock in 1934, Caldow began his association with the club he loved at only 14.

A captain and leader for club and country

After a development spell at Muirkirk Juniors he returned at 18. From here he would cement himself as a fixture in the Rangers side on either flank at full-back.
Caldow also captained Rangers to their first European Final back in 1961. The revered Ibrox captain helped take his side past Ferencvaros, Borussia Monchengladbach and Wolverhampton Wanderers before stumbling to Italian outfit Fiorentina 4-1 on aggregate in a two-legged final.

Caldow also had an esteemed Scotland career too. He played 40 times for his country – 29 at left back and 11 at right – and also captained them for three years.
After winning his first international cap in a 4-2 victory over Spain in May 1957 Eric played in all three of Scotland’s games in the World Cup in Sweden the following year.
Such was his contribution to Ibrox, he finds himself in the club’s Hall of Fame.
