Northern Ireland were dealt a blow when Rangers winger Jordan Jones was pulled out the Ulster side’s squad ahead of their match with Norway with a “knock” [BT Sport].

The pacey wide man, 25, pulls out alongside Aberdeen winger Matty Kennedy as Ian Baraclough’s side are hit with a double injury setback.

The injury also comes after Jones missed the Ulster side’s 1-1 UEFA Nations League draw with Romania on Friday evening.

But whilst the injury is a blow to Jones in an international sense, the scale of the problem may well harm his ambitions in the transfer market at club level.

Northern Ireland manager Ian Baraclough confirmed that Rangers have told Jones he can find another club if the opportunity so arises.

“Jordan is an exciting talent and he wants to play football and regular games to give himself the best chance of performing on the international stage,” said Baraclough [Daily Record].

“He is talented but at this moment in time Rangers is a competitive squad and Steven Gerrard has spoken to him and said he can find a new club if that comes up.

“Hopefully that can be sorted pretty soon and hopefully he can get settled into a new club, new surroundings and then he can go and perform for us like we think he can.

“We have real exciting, young players with pace and an eye for goal and Jordan is one of those.”

Baraclough’s comments also come after a total of six different English Championship clubs were linked with a move for the former Kilmarnock man.

A stand-out at Rugby Park, Jones has struggled to break through into the Rangers side and following a frustrated social media post earlier in the summer, the writing appears to be on the wall for the winger.

After that crunching challenge on Celtic’s Patrick Bauer last September, the winger had the resultant red card, a scowling Steven Gerrard, and a four-month injury to contend with.

Now, this new knock generates an air of transfer uncertainty surrounding his current Rangers future too.
