Tom English has delivered his verdict on the away fans’ allocation for games between Rangers and Celtic.
This comes after Celtic made an announcement that they will ban Rangers supporters if they let in members from the Union Bears into Parkhead.
The Hoops used incidents following the Scottish Cup victory as an example to prevent the Union Bears from attending the final Old Firm derby of the season.

Tom English believes there should not be away fans at Rangers vs Celtic games
English believes that a return to no away fans at Old Firm derbies is the sensible solution.
The BBC journalist has stated that the entire saga is unending and dreary and that the atmosphere at these games is overrated.
In his view, there are a lot of sectarian and IRA chants, and the best thing to stop it from happening would be to stop away fans from entering.

He also believed that what happened last time around was lunacy from both sets of fans and should be prevented at all costs.
English wrote on X: “The allocation saga is unending and dreary. Folk say that the ‘special’ atmosphere on OF day is not the same without away fans. For ‘special’ read sectarianism and IRA chanting and the lunacy we saw last time. A return to no away fans is probably sensible.”

How English’s comments fail to understand the point
English does not understand that having away fans is the entire point of football, and measures should be taken to prevent violence and other kinds of hatred.
It is always better to have both sets of fans regardless of the occasion, and it is something both sets of players and staff would want.
Also, a lot of fans think that most of the songs from either end are harmless and do not really lead to any violence.
The songs are also nothing in comparison to the attacks on players and officials, which should be outlawed and anyone who does these things should be arrested and given lifetime bans.
The SPFL have proposed a reasonable allocation for away fans, and that is something that should be followed by both teams.
