Todd Cantwell has made an immediate impression as a Rangers player.

Goals and assists might be one thing, however, it’s his personality and apparent desire to lift his team-mates around him that has impressed the most.

The goal that Todd Cantwell scored against Hearts was typical of his time at Rangers so far, however, how he celebrated in Steven Naismith’s face was even better.

Footage from behind the dugouts has shown Cantwell and Alfredo Morelos both head to the Hearts bench after the former levelled the scoring.

The Colombian was already fired up after an incident just minutes earlier and needed no invitation to fire a few shots, hinting that the Hearts interim boss should “shut up”.

Steven Naismith was a popular player at Rangers but, his remarks in 2012 will never be forgiven.

Todd Cantwell has the character and ability to be Rangers star

Todd Cantwell has shown for Rangers that he is more than capable of sticking up for himself.

The 24-year old has embraced everything about the club and finally has the stage to display his talents.

Technical ability is obviously essential but, mental strength and a realisation that the Light Blue shirt puts a target on your back are just as important.

More energy is important in midfield but players of the right character are equally as important.

Steven Gerrard used to speak about winning the battle and earning the right to play football, Rangers did that against Hearts, the only issue was that we didn’t finish them off.

Morelos was always happy to roll his sleeves up but, we need more than that to take us to the next level and Todd Cantwell should be the template.

Lyndon Dykes would bully defenders but he wouldn’t score 25-30 goals a season, finding someone that does both is the manager’s toughest task this summer.
